hey all!

its come to the crunch, gotta sell the mini, my first car!

just dont have the money to do it up!

wanna sell it to an enthuisiast tho so if anyones interested in adopting a bit worn brown mini clubman saloon let me know.

havent got any pics but its 1978 998cc, pretty much all original, was converted to manual before i bought it.
had new front subframe put in, new unleaded head gasket, clubman battery which i heard is more powerful then normal mini battery.

oh and they did the steering wheel tracking a while back.

i think it needs krypton tuning and timing and the rust is around the normal mini places

just needs some love and attention to bring it back to its full glory

anyone interested?

ren (Becky?) let me know if you want me to sell this on ebay on your behalf.... I am a power seller :D and dont mind subbing you the £6 listing fee

this clubman went for £255 and its rusty as hell and has been sat for a year so wont start. No MOT

thanx tommycooper, that be cool. :)

ive never sold anything on ebay so if u could help it would be great, the free listing days a big bonus too :D

would it be sold on my account or yours?

what do you think the starting bid should be set at?

and how long do you get to list the car for?

is it a limited time auction because of the free listing?

also, im worried that if i sell my mini, that'l be the end of my contact with minis! :(

i was wondering if there was anyway i could still learn about them and be invovled in the mini club, i was really enjoying it although i am stil a bit nervous and dont really know anyone,:o is there anyway i can help people out with their minis to gain experience about the mechanics and build my knowledge ready for my next mini?

i dont know anything but im enthusiastic and dont mind getting dirty!

sori for the plethora of quetions!!

cheers becky

do u think its worth putting it through an MOT?

coz thers a mini just like mine on ebay thats a little less rusty with a yrs MOT thats going for £800

Hi Becky

It sounds like you need to decide firstly if you definitely want to / need to sell your clubman or want to hold on to it. im sure someone can help with an off road parking solution near you so IF thats what you want.

If you want to list it on ebay then let me know ASAP. as the free listing dates are coming up this weekend. The listing will be for 10 days. unless you want it shorter maybe 7 days so it ends on the weekend. I would suggest setting the starting price at the bottom end of what you would except for it. maybe £300 as youve already been offered £250 and you could probably strip it down and sell the parts for more than £250. Dont start it at 99p as i was a reasonable mini go for £85 the other day and wished id bought it for spare parts. If you want to sell it then did need details like reg, mileage, spec, recent work done and some pics (including pics of rusty bits) If you havent got pics i can come and take some pics for you.

It would help if it had a new MOT .. when does yours run out? But if it needs welding etc to get it through an MOT then it wont be cost effective to do it.

It helps to have a mini BUT you can still be a BMC member and learn about minis / help fix them up etc without owning one... hopefully you can quickly save up a few hundred sell the car that has been bought for you and buy another mini or two

pm me if you want to go the ebay route as that means getting it sorted this weekend

thanks for all the info.

i need to do some quick thinking!:(

um im the most indecisive person in the world and im not sure wat is the most sensible thing to do, i really wanna keep him but i dont know if im letting nostalgia cloud the logic or if its more practical to keep this mini instead of hunting around for another one in a years time?!

what would you do??

if i do keep it it would have to be off the road tho as can only afford one insurance policy

Tommy Cooper

its a hard decision... but if your going to have and use the car that was bought for you and you really need the cash then sell and buy another mini in 6 months or so.

OR hold onto it but then if its off road (to save insuring it etc ) then whats the point unless your going to throw your spare cash at it doing it up.... if its off road it needs a garage else it will rot... but it may be cheaper to get one later in better condition

ultimately it depends how strongly you are attached to that particular car or whether you could love another mini

Thanx for the advice, yeah i think its time to say goodbye, think its better to let someone else have fun with it then leaving it to sit for ages rotting! then i can learn more and save up and get a 1275GT!

if you could help me that be great, um think 7 day listing would be good, finishing auction on a weekend sounds sensible.

found out from mum MOT expires end of jan 2007 same as tax, will look at mileage 2mo, could prob take some pics but they mite be a bit naff how many pics do u think is reasonable?

and what areas should i focus on photographing?

£300 sounds good as a starting bid.

thanx

well the suns out so good for taking pics... take it somewhere with the sea in the background to photograph it

take front back and each side showing the overall look and condition. One under bonnet shot. one or two interior and then take close ups of any particular rust areas - or rust free areas. A panels, front skuttle under windscreen, doors, rear valance / boot hinges. maybe one or two showing the wear on the tyres. Best be honest as only a nutter will bid without inspecting first hand. If you need help with photos then email me

colm.sweet@ntlworld.com i may be able to pop over and do them

If you send me the details and pics I can list on a 7 day listing (I could list and add the photos later if you give me the car details registration etc as its free listing only today and tomorrow)

start at £300 and invite viewings (perhaps put your mobile / email on the ad so I dont have to forward questions to you)

if i search for - mini clubman 1978 - then I dont hit this ebay listing.. I know it sometimes takes a while for listings to turn up on search results but ???

Tommy Cooper
19-11-2006, 12:18 PM
think its sorted now as the listing has got 50+ hits so it must be coming up on key word ebay searches :)

Sounds good, will be even better once photos are added. Whose ebay ID did you use as I thought you were a power seller? Is its Beckys own?

Tommy Cooper
19-11-2006, 06:49 PM
I used Beckys as that way it wont mess up my feedback if the car falls apart when the new owner drives it away! ;)

Yes I am a power seller - i have about 500 sales on my name (but most of these sales are multiple items 10- 20 units) and much of my trade doesnt go through ebay itself - just through paypal. I also have 2000 sales on my wifes name

Only joking I had a look at it today (took the pics to add tonight) and it seems pretty solid (the doors are better than my 1991 cooper).. could do with new A panels (but they are ok for now) and door skins. Needs a service and some new carpets... a nice little projext car to do up and respray or a cheap runaround as it still has some MOT and TAX on it and is cheap to insure

Where has the listing gone? has it been sold?

Tommy Cooper
27-11-2006, 05:19 PM
someone hacked into Beckys ebay account and started selling 30" flat screens (or pretending to) from her account.. ebay removed those listings and the mini ad and changed her passwords.... I think if anyone interested(there were 1500 + views and about 19 watchers) email her with offers in excess of £250

Thats great Mike, good bondng time together - arguing over who pays for what I expect! Good news for Becky that its staying within the realms of BMC as well.

My Daughter has already got her eyes on my car.. shes told me she wants me to keep it for her but she will paint it all purple and sparkly.. shes got 12 years to wait until she can drive it :p

Little does she know I plan to get it painted dark purple with a metallic flip in about two years when it will need a body overhaul (like me :D )
