Quick shift gear levers,

1) Do they improve much?
2) Which ones are best?
3) Does any one have, if so whats it like?

Thanks for your time

peace out

The name is misleading as you should not use them to shift gear faster or you will shift quicker than the sychro can keep up with and knacker the box, however, if you use them and shift sensibly they should be OK.
The ONLY one to get is the KAD one, the others are all copys, and bad ones at that.
I had one on the van, it was a copy and was a b*tch to get in reverse and crunched second gear. Apart from that I quite liked the short throw, it gave a sporty feel.

They are marketed as 'quickshift' and they do (as you probably know) allow you to change gear quicker as the distance between gears is reduced, but, as above if you shift too quick it mashes the cogs!

A shorter rod requires less distance to travel between two set points(gears), but more effort to achieve movement.

For example: When changing from 1st to 2nd gear, lets say it requires 10" of travel between the start of the gear change(point A) and the end of the gear change(point B).
(when messured at the point where your hand is touching the gear lever)

Now imagine that the rod was shorter. It would require less distance to travel between point A to point B. Therfore taking less time for you hand to travel this distance, ergo reducing the time in which the car is between gears and unable to accelerate.

Faster gear changes = Quicker acceleration :)

Through experience they are a waste of time i think. If you do want to fit one though as said get the Kad mk2 version i think it is anodised blue cost about 85-90 quid.

I LIKE THEM ,THEY TAKE A BIT OF GETTING USED TOO.
THE WAY IT WORKS IS BY RAISING THE PIVOT POINT ON THE GEAR STICK
WHICH SHORTENS THE DISTANCE OF TRAVEL NEEDED AT THE GEARKNOB END.

EASY TO FIT . DEFINATELY GO FOR THE KAD STAGE 2 AS ALL THE OTHERS ARE INFERIOR COPIES
