View Full Version : Found a(few) mini(s)
Hi all,
Well, after a couple of months of relentless searching and saving, i've finally started finding the odd mini :D
Looking at 4 at the moment, all for around £1500. I'm off to view 1 (if it's not sold to the guy who's viewing it 2 hours before me  ) on saturday.
Lots of engine mods (1275), fully stripped, rollcage, buckets, new brakes, suspension etc etc... HOPEFULLY it's still available (meaning i'll probably put a deposit down there n then :p )
Funny thing is, i'm 17 still, and to be prepared I spent a night with me pa ringing up for insurance quotes. The ONLY company who would insure me (with everything declared) was Adrian Flux for £2068 and thats only tpfat!!! Still, I haven't tried that HEC company (HEC?? herts something or the other), ANNNND, if it comes down to it I probably would pay the 2 grand because i'm young and stupid!
WELL, felt like telling you all for some reason :)

If you take the rollcage out you'll probably half any quotes you get.
or just buy a std 998 and save the thousands on insurance and buy something nicer when you get older. You might find you'll own a slower mini longer ;)
My fully declared turbo is only £170 a year fully comp :p
NAH, i'd prefer a tuned mini. Besides, its off to uni in less than a year and I don't want to have to wait 5 years until i can experience a decent/tuned car (4/5 year course) - chances are i'll end up selling the thing before I go so I can actually pay my way :)
About the rollcage and buckets, the insurance guy said it was because of these things that I have such a massive quote, so I COULD take the rollcage out, but to be quite honest with you, I think i'd feel quite a bit safer with the thing in... seems quite odd really that a safety feature would make it so high. Then again, it's the car the companies are worried about, not my life
All of this is providing I actually buy the thing - you never know, that other sod may get it before I can  .

I think you'll find its there wallets the insurance companies are worried about, lol. Insurance companies HATE roll cages, even display ones. I think the reason is that... If you have one, your more likely to rag the car around rally style.
Is it not worth removing the cage just to get the price down? Unless your being silly/dangerous on the road, your not likely to need a roll cage. And for the money you save on the policy, you could uprate the suspension/brakes, making it safer

yes definetely loose the roll cage (I think they look horrible anyhow but thats just me)... if you want to be safe buy a crash helmet, elbow pads and knee pads and drive ;)
try phoning the same company for a quote minus the roll cage and see what comes back
Hahaha! I'd look the dogs bollocks getting out of the car in town with all tht gear on! :D
That's a good idea too, we're on a insurance calling mission on saturday (i'll get my dad to do it cos i'm at work :p ) so we'll see what comes back.
mmmmmmmm minis

The only use for a cage is if you're gonna turn the thing upside down (and in my case needlessly bashing your head when you go over bumps). Most of the bought items and all bolt in ones will bend just as quick as the boby work does in an impact. They do stiffen the shell up a bit, but that's not worth a grand in insurance. I'd rather spend the money on a set of coil overs and a Mirage turbo kit :)
