are you talking about putting bigger tyres on your existing rims !?!? or getting 5J rims and fitting 165/60s ?

Ive gopt Falken 165/60 12" tyres on 5J rims .. which are fine but they rub slightly on the front bodywork near the arches when I have passengers and go round sharp corners....

yeah meaning different tyres on current 4.5 x 12s steels!

Im not sure I suspect you can but that certain tyres fit better and more safely on certain size rims

Yes, some 165/60/12 size tyres would make it look a bit more 'purposeful' as they are a little wider and have a smaller sidewall/lower profile. It is perfectly safe, the rover 'minilight' style alloys (like on my car) are 4.5 X 12 and loads of people run 165/60/12 tyres on them. If your balljoints and rubber suspension cones are in decent nick there should be no issues with tyre scrubbing either.
