Do you get "The Fear", or as it is also known "mini paranoia"? I'm sure it's a mini owner thing - symptoms are: you start imagining noises and worrying about whats about to fall off/snap/stop working. Sometimes the noises are there, sometimes they are just in your head, I know this because a lot of the time I will be driving along and say "whats that noise?" and Mary will reply "WHAT??" because it's so bloody loud in the van, so I'll say "WHATS THAT NOISE!" and she will say "WHAT NOISE" and I'll say "THE CLICKING NOISE" and she will say "I CANT HEAR A CLICKING NOISE" and so I assume I just made up a clicking noise because nothing has broken for a whole week and I am expecting something to fall off/snap/stop working.
y lol been there, but u know you've REALLY got a problem when you get the above symptoms before you've even started the engine. :)

Yeah "THE FEAR" comes with all mini's definately my estate was the worst. It is one of them things that seems to go inside you as soon as your inside the car. I would always be pulling over if i heard a noise to check it out or be constantly watching gauges thinking "THAT OIL PRESSURE IS A BIT LOW". But then i would realise it is 90 degrees outside and i have just ragged it for about 30 miles at speeds over 90mph (when i had my 1380:( ). In the end this is why i got rid of the estate as i was to scared to drive it and was not enjoying it anymore. So now i think keep it simple and this has worked for 3 years so far with mine but it is starting to creep back  .

perhaps a thread on what possible noises and causes in a mini could be might be useful, or in the least mildly humorous?

The worst thing about "THE FEAR" is that i always fear the worst. Driving a mini certianly improves your sense of hearing.

I just have Pat to worry me. Every time he gets in Roo he says "how long have you been driving around with that noise, squeek, etc" He is the biggest worrier of all. I know its gonna cost me money and time when he starts!

yeah i get the fear worst, when someone gets in and goes @what's that noise?@ and i cant hear it, mainly because i think i dont wanna believe its about to cost me more money, so i have a habit of hoping it'll go away!

At first it didn't start off as 'the fear'. It was more like 'the annoying'. Until, one day, at 70mph, the wheel came off, yeah 3 of my front wheel studs just snapped, Controlling a go-kart with only one stud attached in the fast lane of the M25 really isn't easy, what with it not going round, more like up and down.
I never really felt safe driving that car again.
Lucky really though as when I got my car home off the bad of a flat bed, the 4th stud snapped and the car hit the floor, lucky to be alive I suppose.
