I thought about getting some black plates for my 1990 Mayfair, but everyone advises me not to do it. I know there illegal, but they are damn cool…if I was to get a set and was stopped, what would the police do? Is it a fine, points on license or just a ticking off?
i also like the sticker ones that curve around the bonnet on the saloons, afre these leagal?

I have them on my 1974 and i've had no problems. However one member had them on his K reg and was told by the police to remove them or get a fine! I think if you plead ignorant and say they were on the car when you got it you may get away with it if you get stopped!

Happened to me, had alu plates on a '94 and got tugged (was doing a touch over the speed limit too though) I got a slapped wrist and told to change them or next time it would be a fine. On the other hand I hear of people that never get pulled for it.

They also sell them on ebay. I brought mine at Southern Mini Days last year for £20, and they are the nice pressed metal ones.

I've had them on 2 minis so far and had no problems but both minis have looked quite old so thats probably helped. They suit the mini much better then standard ones as well. L2B is just around the corner and you can get them there for £20.
