View Full Version : Is it possible to retro fit rear seat belts?

As above really.

The fact the mine is an A reg 1983, it was prior to the requirement of rear seatbelts.
That does seem to stop both my children and wife moaning at me about it not being safe for them to travel in.
I understand where they are coming from, but I dont know how you would go about it? I got some belts from sam(mcduck), but not sure how to sort it.

Basically with less the 2 weeks before the brooklands meet, we wont be going in my mini, unless I get these rear belts sorted.

Help please anyone

Hi mate

Don't mean to sound silly,:) but if you have the one's out of Mcducks old car, can't you fit them in yours the same way. I assume you are missing the brackets at the back of the rear seat but these should just be a nut welded on, I have the rear of sam's old car in the garden waiting to be made into a trailer so if you need me to take any photos please just ask. When you do finish getting them in I will be interested to see how as I have that job to get on with at some stage.

I didnt take them out mate, so dont really know how they are supposed to go back in, and mine will not have any brackets or anything.

I see your problem...

It sounds like you have the same problem I have.
I am sure you mini will still have the holes for the nuts at the bottom of the rear seat, (mine has) I will take a pic of the bit I have in the garden and you should be able to work out where it is on yours. I presume the seat belts are 3 point and not lap belts ?

You should have the rear mounts in your car Steve,
Shorty is an '82 and they were in him, all i did was bolt the belts in

4 bolt holes behind seat base, one either side and two near the centre,
top mounts are about half way up the rear pillars, behind the trim,

Found it all, just need to get a complete set of belts now, in black preferably!
