View Full Version : Rusty shock mount
taking a close look at the car this eve thinking of fitting a coilover kit, i notice the passenger side front top shock mount is a bit corroded and thin (the box section it bolts to). Are these sections easy to replace/fix??

the worst bit is getting sensible access to get the welder in!
oh access is no probs, its a flip front. I had a closer look today and there is a hole the size of a 2p coin right in the middle of the shock mount plate, how can this section be repaired? Is shis hole in a panel OVER the shock mount nuts or are those mountings attached to thr rusty panel??

The shock mount nuts are conected to the folded lip of the box section.
I would sugest having a good clean up of the area, zinc primer and then plating over the hole.
If when it's cleaned up you are woried about how close to the mounting bolts the rust has got,
stick another pic up and i can give you some pointers as to the way i think you should go
ah cool thanks Dr D. I stuck a bolt into each nut and gave it a good wiggle and they are nice and rigid with no play. I'll cut out that rusty section and weld in a small plate behind it. Thanks :)
