Howdy

my main beams appear to of given up for some reason! When I push the stalk forward to switch them on the dipped beam cuts out and the blue dash light comes on, so the swithching is working fine, but the main beams fail to come on. Any clues? Where is the fuse for them, in the main plastic fuse box?

Cheers in advance for any help

Could be both bulbs blown, the dipped and main beams have different elements inside the bulb. The fuse for the mains is in the fuse box or if you have been working behind the grille the wiring to them is right behind the slam panel and the crappy bullet connectors corrode or come undone.

Unlikely to be both bulbs gone at the same time I would imagine, they were both working a week or so ago. I'll give all the cables and connectors a clean and a wiggle later and see if that improves things any.

It's unlikely but you would be surprised how often it does happens!

I think it was human error.. eg Daz was playing with the wrong knob :)

Wish mine would fix themselves!! I have the same problem..did a volt check and there's no power after the connectors when i push stalk for main..no saying that the power isnt getting that far though...do you think i need new connectors as when i pull each one open they're all brown and flimsy looking...Hope its not the stalk as they're over £40...thought it was the switch in the car again as it happened a couple of weeks ago but it was the switch so i replaced it...found that out coz if i toggled the switch between side and main with the stalk forward all lights came on...not the case this time...any other suggestions please...fuse is ok...switch is ok...don't know about stalk or connectors...which is it likely to be as i dont wanna go bying a stalk when its just a couple of quid for new connectors

Glad to hear yours are working again Darren!

Bcarlton,

When you say the connector do you mean the connectors under the slam pannel?

If so, they are rubish. Even if it isn't them, i'd change them. Get new 4 way female things, then sand paper the old bullet connectors. When you put them back together make sure it's nice and tight. Then a bit of grease, we have this moly grease stuff at work I use, but something designed to protect battery connections will be perfect.

I broke my main beam stalk, I went for an entire new set off ebay, £15 delivered. You can get a bargain on there sometimes.

Obviously, you've got to make sure they'll fit your car, but:

Mine was the other way round from what I had before, but I didn't mind swapping.

Thanks for info Chris..am hoping it is just the connectors...as i said, i bought a new switch a couple of weeks ago and its been fine...yeah, it was connectors behind grill...all the vibration doesnt help though does it? Just a thought too...when i was checking the wires there was heat coming from the earth connector so i disregarded the earth comming from the loom and direct earthed the two earths from the lights...would this be ok to do or should i reconnect them to loom when i get new connectors?
