Well I made it as far as Churchill square this morning before I decided I shouldn't be driving the mini with a nasty missfire. Limped it home and borrowed Marys car to get to work    (thats me being angry at my car, not Marys car!) Have the afternoon off now to try and get Lola fixed. Ah well, thats part of the reason we love 'em I guess, the tempremental little buggers.

all fixed now :)

It was either plugs, leads, dizzy cap or rotor arm - I replaced them all!!

I also spent 2 hours cleaning her and still didn't polish the glass, WD40 the rubber and plastic, brasso the chrome or touch the interior!! She looks good though, lovely and shiney http://www.fancysplace.com/smileys/inlovef2.gif

Whilst out fixing/cleaning I had an older couple come over and chat about a 60's mini they had (think they said a '66) and how back in the day repairs were a little different - the floorpan had rotted through so the guy stuck some plywood down http://www.fancysplace.com/smileys/icon_lol.gif I don't think that would get past an MOT these days!! Then a little later on two (rather lovely looking) ladies pulled up and asked if I would sell Lola to them - of course the answer was no

I wish i had had a look at this forum before buying my mini..........it is starting to make me panic a bit:eek:
I Had a fair few in the past and didn't used to have too much trouble with mine, well until they caught fire or hit something. That was over 20 years ago though.

I think i should make sure i'm on first name terms with my bank manager.

lol, if you look after it there will be no problems. Minis need more 'preventative maintenance' then modern cars (grease the suspension points, oil changes etc). If you keep on top of that and don't thrash it it'll last a long time.

Oh, and HGF = Head Gasket Failure ;)

Don't worry as Darren has said it is not all doom and gloom. I have had my car for 4 years when i got it it was just starting to go in a few places. So i ran it for a while and got all the parts needed to do a mild clean up. Finally me and Steve(T Boy) rebuilt the lot in 3 weeks the pictures are here (http://www.brightonminiclub.co.uk/forum/gallery/showgallery.php/cat/504) and by the way the red subframes and blue underneath is because it was going to be blue but i then changed my mind at the last minute:D . But anyway since then i have not broken down once apart from a little rain in the distributor. I just keep on top by checking it over once a month. It is just when you start to leave things that problems arrive. And 9 times out of 10 it is something really silly. So don't panic mate you will love it and i am sure the buisness will do well from it also.

agh HGF

I havent got that far in my car maintenance course... so far Ive learnt what a distributer does, found out that a differential isnt anything to do with A level maths and got underneath an old Rover to look at the sump, clutch and gearbox.

They have the metal frame of a go kart at Northbrook College with an old morris mini engine mounted to it .. its good for finding out whats what as there is no body work to obscure the view!

Well I just gave my mechanic a ring and it was the head gasket, it had gone between 2 and 3. Should have her back in a couple of hours - i'm as excited as a kid at Xmas, I havent seen her for a week!

Glad Lola is back. Bet Mary's pleased to get her corsa back from you as well. Maybe you should give Lola a nice weekend away now to show how much you love her - say to Castle Coombe!

She would be but I drove it to work, got Lola back during the day and then left the corsa at my parents and drove Lola home so she still hasn't got her car backhttp://www.fancysplace.com/smileys/icon_lol.gif

I would like nothing more (was very excited about this show), unfortunately my bank manager would probably have something to say :(
