i went to uni on thursday, and i wasnt looking forward to the 4-5 hour drive in the first place...i managed to get to london ok but there was a rubbing sound for a few miles....i pulled over on the motorway and had a quick look at my problem area (passenger sidfe wheel) i had just put my drilled brake disks on and they were the first suspect...i looked straight passed the wheel nuts and felt the brakes were really hot..i was going to let them cool off and have a good look but ur not allowed to do that on motorways....i carried on to the next junction and pulled off....as soon as i got into a 40mph zone...i dropped and had to controll the car from veering into the next lane.... amazingly the brakes, driveshafts etc all seemed ok....i found 2 of the wheel nuts and put them on the two remaining studs and moved the car out from danger...the only dammage was 2 new wheel nuts and studs and i will need an A pannel. all this will prob only come to £20 tops and ive saved about 30-40 quid in petrol because the AA gave me a free lift

Holy cow, lucky escape dude - could of been very nasty. Someone else from the clubs wheel came off a while ago too, but he thinks vandals may of loosened them.

I have turned up at work to notice a wheel nut sticking out before - just goes to show you should check these things now and then.

My next door neigbough was towing a kit car back from down south, the guy who owned it previously had put huge wheel spacers on, but left the short studs on.

This meant the wheel nuts could only screw on one or two times, one of the wheels fell off on the motorway, which caused the car to swerve to the right into the other lane! Pulled over, took the spacers off, problem solved.

same thing happened to me, passenger side front wheel fell off.

but like Daz (rnrmf) says, i am pretty sure it was chavs that did it.
